Question by donald p: My cat was stolen…and one was injured on purpose. What should i do?
The whole story: we had gotten this cute little calico kitten from a friend and shortly after i had gotten another gray long-haired kitten from someone i knew. anyway once they were old enough the night before we were to get him fixed she became pregnant so we got 4 beautiful kittens from them. And around November 15, 2009 one of the (now 1 year old) kittens had disappeared after my brother had seen it no more than 30 minutes later. Well, when my sister was showing our neighbors the lost cat flyer’s )these people up the street from us) the husband didn’t look at the picture but knew exactly what color his collar was and you can’t see it in the picture we have of him since his fur is so long. And his wife said and i quote: “is that your cat, oh he’s a beautiful cat!” So we got the police involved but the one person we had didn’t even try to help us and assumed that we were wrong! Plus those people said that they have outdoor cats but we never see any out there and they don’t call for any cats either. Plus since that time with the police they suddenly had their blinds closed covering the windows so no one would notice a cat in the window if it was sitting there. And when they see us walking our two dogs they stare at us like they know they have our cat and won’t give him back! Then..now i’m warning you, this is going to be sad and cruel at the same time!…About a few months ago Oreo was outside and one night he hadn’t returned. Well, he’d done this before so we didn’t worry until about the 2nd night so my sister walked up to the end of the street by (their house) and shouted his name wednesday to thursday evening and when no one was home except me, after i had called him out back all of a sudden he was lying on our garage floor. He couldn’t even walk!!! He had no collar so someone from out of town wouldn’t know where he lived. Anyway my brother had taken him to the vets that afternoon and he’d lost a lot of fluid cause he’d been like that for a few days at least. The vet said that he’d prob. gotten hit by a car. Plus the fact that he had a small wound in his leg meant that he was also shot at 2. He was the 3 year old father of the kittens! So my brother had to put him down because there wasn’t a way to save him. =(

Best answer:

Answer by Ocimom
I’m sorry your kitty died and you’ve had a lot of problems. However, when you allow your cats outside to roam unsupervised these things happen quite often (and worse things too).

My suggestion is to either keep your cats inside from now on, or let them outside only under supervision at all times. This means training to a harness/leash or build/buy a cat enclosure where they can sit outside but you know where they are at all times.

Question by Dylan: Can a nose bleed lead to blood in your stool or should I be worried?
Last night I helped a friend change the oil in his car. The floor in his garage was covered in really fine sawdust. Well after I did all that I went home and after a while my nose got to bothering me. I just rubbed it kinda roughly and it started pouring blood. Well I reacted, and finally stopped it. This morning I got out of the shower and it started bleeding again, but this time I wasn’t in as good a position to deal with it and I finally got it stopped, but I ended up unintentionally swallowing a lot of the blood because it ran down my throat and I couldn’t cough it up and breathe at the same time. Anyway, the blood made me very nauseous and I’ve only have one bowel movement, but it had a lot of blood in it. Can the blood from the nose bleed keep its color and still stay around after going through my body or should I be concerned?

Also, I live in rural Tennessee and the doc is a appointment and an hour drive for me so I want to make sure I’m not overreacting for something normal.

Best answer:

Answer by Marco’s girl
Dear Dylan,

No, the blood that you swallowed would not show up in a bowel movement. It could just be a coincidence. If the blood was bright red, then it probably means you strained when having a bowel movement and perhaps tore your skin, or your have a hemorrhoid. Dark stool is a worry, or if you see something that resembles coffee grounds…that could be serious, as it would probably mean you have internal bleeding. That would be cause for immediate alarm. But if it is bright red, an a hemorrhoid you can remedy that by eating more fiber and using Preparation H. Two nose bleeds, with a profuse amount of blood is a bit concerning. Why don’t you make an appointment for the end of the week and play it by ear. If the nose bleeds stop, then cancel the appointment. If they continue, then you definitely want to get in to see what is up.

"A beautiful home of the English style of domestic architecture, designed by Mr. F. L. Roehrig, is shown above. It is almost hidden in a grove of splendid willows, palms, and plant life which reach such fullness of growth in this climate. Cool shady pergolas brick paved and vine covered, make for ideal retreats on warm days. Winding drives bordered with beautiful shrubs and orange trees, pretty Japanese water gardens and hedges of roses, combine to make this a most attractive home.

"Among the many beautiful gardens of California we find a large number planned along formal lines. These are in keeping with the many adaptations of the classic or formal types of architecure found in Europe. But in the garden of Mrs. Ramsay, glimpses of which are portrayed above, a beautiful English garden has been planned and carried to splendid completion. To complete the picture there is the greatest harmony between the grounds and house. A stroll through this beautiful park, with its winding drives boarded by stately trees, their tops meeting overhead through which glimpses of the blue sky is had arbors of roses shady pergolas and nooks, and lily ponds, bring memories of the beautiful country estates of Old England.

‘Here oft the happy sun himself would rest.
Riding his glorious circuit to the west.’

"A cobble-stone retaining wall extends across the grounds. The approach is through a heavy iron gate with stone pillars supporting The drive separates, one winding throuh he park, joining again the main driveway leading to the garage. Opposite the front entrance to the house and to the right of the driveway there is an attractive vine-covered pergola with brick floor and round pillars in which have been placed many rustic seats and swings. Immediately back of the house and separated from the service wing by an old fashioned fence with its quaint entrance, is a broad brick paved pergola completely covered with roses and blooming flowers and vines. This is a most enticing nook on warm days. Broad brick steps lead to a finely finished tennis court. A wide brick terrace extending from the garage completes these beautiful grounds."
I have a 17x17x24 (LxWxH) propane heater i want to put in my garage which is about 12′x24′ just to take the chill out while working on my car. With a car, workbench, tool box, air compressor, mig welder and shelving, space is at a premium. I also have the garage insulated with r13 fiberglass insulation with NO covering (sheet rock etc). What is the best and safest way to setup my heater? Can i put it on the floor next to a wall if i say put a piece of sheet metal on the wall, or some fire-guard dry wall, build some sort of shelf to hold the heater?
Ill add that i have plenty of ventilation in the garage(2 peak vents) and it wont be running for more than an hour or 2 at a time, so CO isnt an issue. Should i maybe put the heater inside the garage door and the tank outside?

Answer by yourethebuilder
5/8″ sheetrock will be your best bet. Put this up on the wall that will be behind the heater. Go all the way up the wall and a piece on the ceiling directly above the heater if it’s not already there. Be sure to seal it by putting a coat of tape and some spackle on it. It doesn’t have to look pretty. It’s only your garage. But you’ll have piece of mind knowing you did it right.

Question by Bobby R: Should I clean my garage floor for my upcoming pool party (read details below on why I am asking)?
I plan on having a pool party at my house. I don’t have a covered deck outdoors, so I am planning on putting the food (buffet style) and beer in the garage for people to serve themselves (My wife doesn’t want everyone coming in and out of the house with wet swimwear on.).

The problem is that when I walk in the garage in my bare feet for 3 minutes, the soles of my feet get black and dirty. Do you think I should try and clean the garage floor or do you think people won’t really care because it is a pool party and everyone will be just chillin’?

If you think I should clean it, what can I use? It is made of smooth unfinished concrete.
I’m not too worried about the pool getting dirty. There’s probably 7500 gallons of water in it. Even if a pound of dirt got into the pool, you wouldn’t even notice. Plus, the filter is always cleaning the water.

Answer by fakest forest
Since the process is quite simple, you can probably find a handyman to do the labor for less than $ 200.
The job takes less than a day.

For the homeowner who values a clean and organized garage, applying a garage floor epoxy coating is usually the final step in finishing off your entire garage. An epoxy provides a professional look and feel to your floor. It also helps to resist oil stains and it wipes up easily. Any water spilled on the floor will bead up and wipe off easily as well. If you want to hide any imperfections in floor, you can add color chips and custom paint colors to the coating. An antiskid additive will increase the grip on the floor as well.

There is a lot of preparation work required before applying a garage floor epoxy coating. After all the prep work is done, the actual application will seem quite easy. The reason the preparation is difficult and time consuming is that an epoxy will not adhere properly to a surface that is not clean and slightly rough as well. Cracks and holes need to be patched and allowed to set fully before proceeding any further.

Another tip to note is that the concrete floor should be at least two months old and not sealed in order for the epoxy to adhere to the concrete. If you are uncertain whether your floor has, a seal on it then pour a little water on it and it beads then it is sealed. Removing a sealer is done with a chemical stripper, which just adds more work to the job. After the floor is stripped then you can clean it. This is performed with an industrial type cleaner and a machine called a floor maintainer, which you will most likely have to rent. The chemicals can be quite harsh so protective clothing is highly recommended. They are also not particularly environmentally friendly.

As you can see, the preparation of the floor is quite a job. Once all this work is complete, you can begin your application of the epoxy garage floor coating. It is important to choose a day that is dry and between fifty and eighty degrees. Without the perfect conditions, the epoxy can bubble and peel. Once the epoxy and hardener is mixed, you have approximately two hours to apply it. After all this is complete, you still must wait three days before parking your car on it or bringing everything back into the garage.

Most home improvement centers will carry some form of epoxy garage floor coating. Speak to an experienced staff member to find out what is the best product they sell that meets your particular needs. Follow the instructions that come with the product. Failure to follow the instructions could result in the coating not sticking or it could peel as well. Before beginning your project, you should speak to a professional and get some tips on preparing your floor and applying the epoxy. Even though applying some form of coating to your floor will make it look much better, there are many factors involved that could cause problems with the coating. Good luck with applying your epoxy or floor paint.
