Lift-Master, The Professional Line, Formula 1, Whisper Drive (1/2 hp) manufactured on may 2000. It all started last Wednesday, when door did not fully closed. It needed half an inch to fully close.

Question by hummer4x4guy: Garage door opener closes then opens…?
I just replaced the worm and gear drive in my chamberlain garage door opener. Followed all instructions. Closed garage door, chain was off the gear drive and I pushed the open button as it says to do. Let it do one rotation then hooked up the chain with trolley and door in the closed position. Then pushed the button to open it and it goes up about 1-2 feet stops then goes down almost to the floor and stops. Any ideas?

As a side note I do know that it is not touching the stop open and stop closed settings since the cover is off I can see where those are set and it is not coming at all close to it.
It does this up and down trick even when the door is not hooked up to the trolly

Question by WriterMom: Something in garage dripping water constantly (heater?)?
Our heat pump/ac circulation? Anyhow, this thing in the garage is tall and rectangular, has a pilot light and vents, huge round tubes I assume r for Ir. At the base, kind of under it is a flat panel covered with gross, mildewed insulation ant that part is dripping constantly, soaking the floor. I just need to know why it’s dripping.

Please please help, I’m so broke. What is wrong and how can I fix it? Someone please take a moment to answer.. I’m willing to look up details and fix if I cCan, just need a start

Best answer:

Answer by rmm
Sounds like it could be your air conditioner – condensation is normal to be created and drip (look below any car with ac running and you will see condensation dripping).

Most likely your drain pan and hose is clogged. Needs to be cleaned out.

Question by dan the man: Convert garage into bedroom.?
Basically i want to convert a 2 car garage into an extra bedroom as cheaply as possible. Also, since it will be a temporary (about 2-3 year) room, it will eventually be converted back into a garage. It has 2 automatic openers which i plan on keeping in place, removing the hardware that extends into the room itself and drywalling off that end of a garage about 1ft. away from the doors. Also because of a 6-7 inch drop off between the concrete floor itself and the house (it is attached), I want to build a wooden deck that can be covered by insulation and carpet. No need for any plumbing or electrical work, it already has one window which i plan on putting in a window AC unit and using a space heater during the winter. Being in Louisiana our winter is maybe a month anyway. So in the end, the only expenses will come from the drywalling, building of the deck and carpeting. I haven’t measured, but its a typical 2 car garage, i would assume around the 22X22 ft dimensions, give or take 2 feet on each measurement. Me and my dad would be doing it, so costs would be strictly for materials. The garage does have a slope (another reason for the deck) that i would guess to be about 3 inches over the 22 feet, however it starts gradual and gets sharper the further away from the house you get.

Best answer:

Answer by B3AST
Well if your trying to save money ill tell you what and what not to do. You do NOT hire people for this job and it looks like you and your dad are on the case. If you need to maybe get a friend or something that would be willing to help for free. Use pine lumber for your deck. its cheap and strong. Do not get something like black walnut because its more expensive. Try and go to a few stores like do it and home depot to find some cheap carpet and insulator. Also before you start putting things in make a blue print or a diagram of what you are gonna do and a list of what you need and how much of it to estimate a price range of how much it will cost you. If you need to patch holes or anything use the cheapest of the 3. grout putty or spackle.

Question by Mr Spin: Making a Dog Den in our garage…?
Hi, I/we as a family adore our new puppy which is a Bichon Frise. We have a new house for which my wife is VERY house proud with new furniture which she does not want chewed and I respect that. I grew up with dogs while my wife is unsure but equally loves our new ball of fluff. We have a double garage attached to our house and I decided to make a big luxury dog den in there as my wife is not keen on letting her sleep in the kitchen at night. OTT I know, but this den has a seperate bedroom which is covered, heated PetPad, toilet area, food area, wooden & carpeted floor and even a night light!!! The den also leads to a dog flap to the large garden which is completely safe, secure and you are unable to enter the garden let alone see it from the outside world. The reason for the dog flap is that we both work but the dog is never alone for more than 4 hours as I pop home or because of shifts she is never alone longer than that. Whenever we are home she is ALWAYS aloud in the house and is loved beyond belief. She goes to her ‘den’ from about 11pm-6am for bedtime (dog flap is locked) and then given love and walks in morning. She then has run of garden and den for 3-4 hours before one of us gets home for another walk and love etc etc. Kids come home from school and MORE fun, love blah blah blah (yes inside the house) then bed again at 11pm. She seems really happy and healthy. Never cries or whines at bedtime as she knows it as routine. Always has food and drink in den 24/7 and is walked 2-3x per day. We check the temperature daily/nightly and keep her PetPad on 24/7 just in case. We even have draft blockers on bottom of garage doors! She NEVER roams around garage itself. Question….Are we being cruel? as a neighbour who ‘won crufts’ is implying we are. My dog is not making any noise (Neighbour confirmed that). The lady is elderly (not an issue btw) but I am concerned we could get in trouble about this? have spoken to RSPCA and the vets we use and they seem happy. The puppy is 3 months old btw. – Sorry for long question! :0)

Best answer:

Answer by Jayla B
No what your doing is completely fine. That’s her opionon, and every one has one. You will not get into trouble for what your doing at all. You are actually being extra responsible, most people dont even think about any of this. They just shove the dog in the backyard and let it in whenever.

This home on Mercer Island utilizes the elemental natures of concrete, steel and glass to create a family refuge. Two concrete structures, which house the garage, mudroom, and a play area, present themselves to the street. Between them runs an exposed steel bridge which leads over a private courtyard and into the main house. A bent plate steel staircase descends into an open plan, double-height living space, which is dominated by an immense concrete fireplace and chimney (in the living room) and a massive black granite-covered island (in the kitchen). Floor to ceiling windows provide unimpeded views of the water from the courtyard or inside the house.

Best answer:

Answer by immascrazyasaloon
As long as your ok with some work, it shouldn’t be too hard to convert a garage into a room, as long as(depending on where you live) the garage door holds heat/cold well. Depending on the type of walls, you could cover then with curtains, paintings, or posters, paint them, find a cheaper siding and put that up even. Add your throw rug and some personal touches and you should be good to go.

Question by Miss Lolly: How to store Washer/Dryer in a garage?
My husband and I moved into an apartment complex that already had a W/D and so we need to store ours in our garage. What is the best way to do that?

The apartment manager said to raise them off the floor, but with what? And should we cover them with something?

(btw this is in Northern San Diego County/Fallbrook)
it’s an outdoor garage detached from the building. All the garages are just out on their own at the end of the parking lot. They’re not high-tech ones with mechanical doors. Just little concrete shelters. I’m worried about water damage.
nah the floor is concrete, but like you said not climate controlled and its at the bottom of the parking lot so water runs down

Best answer:

Answer by Duane
if there is any chance of freezing also make sure the water is out of the internal plumbing

Question by Pelmeni: How to cover a garage door from the inside? Curtains?
I am moving into a two car garage that has been renovated into a nice studio apartment. Beautiful kitchen, wonderful bathroom, hardwood flooring, etc. Now the only drawback is that the city building codes prohibit the owner from building a wall over the garage door. The owner got a contractor to fully seal and insulate the garage door but the hardware is still on it (including on the ceiling) and cannot be removed….again, due to city building codes. I am planning to paint the metal hardware the color of the ceiling to sort of blend it in. Now how do I cover the garage door? Huge curtain? Some kind of bamboo panels? I have no idea! The owner is not very creative and neither am I.

Just so you know, I’m decorating the place with a Provence theme….so it’s feminine, simple yet elegant.

Thank you!

I have a 17x17x24 (LxWxH) propane heater i want to put in my garage which is about 12′x24′ just to take the chill out while working on my car. With a car, workbench, tool box, air compressor, mig welder and shelving, space is at a premium. I also have the garage insulated with r13 fiberglass insulation with NO covering (sheet rock etc). What is the best and safest way to setup my heater? Can i put it on the floor next to a wall if i say put a piece of sheet metal on the wall, or some fire-guard dry wall, build some sort of shelf to hold the heater?
Ill add that i have plenty of ventilation in the garage(2 peak vents) and it wont be running for more than an hour or 2 at a time, so CO isnt an issue. Should i maybe put the heater inside the garage door and the tank outside?

Answer by yourethebuilder
5/8″ sheetrock will be your best bet. Put this up on the wall that will be behind the heater. Go all the way up the wall and a piece on the ceiling directly above the heater if it’s not already there. Be sure to seal it by putting a coat of tape and some spackle on it. It doesn’t have to look pretty. It’s only your garage. But you’ll have piece of mind knowing you did it right.
